Sourcing, Responsibility & ESG

Kernile’s sourcing strategy is built on full end-to-end management of peanut farming across a diversified network spanning more than eight sourcing countries, ensuring consistency, traceability, and long-term supply reliability across origins. The company works directly with farming operations ranging from small-scale growers to multi-thousand-acre commercial farms, providing continuous technical support throughout the entire agricultural cycle. This support covers seed selection, cultivation practices, irrigation management, crop protection, harvesting, and post-harvest handling, enabling farming partners to consistently meet international quality, food safety, and sustainability standards.

Kernile operates within GlobalG.A.P.-certified farming frameworks, where certified farms maintain formal labor contracts, documented safety procedures, and established grievance mechanisms. As part of its broader social responsibility framework, Kernile is SEDEX-certified and fully committed to compliance with ILO labor conventions, with a strict zero-tolerance policy toward child labor, forced labor, or exploitative employment practices across all sourcing activities. Continuous farmer training programs are delivered with a strong focus on occupational health and safety, responsible chemical handling, sustainable irrigation practices, and environmental stewardship, strengthening both social and operational resilience at farm level.

Environmental responsibility is embedded throughout Kernile’s agricultural and processing operations. Water efficiency is a core priority, with fully controlled irrigation systems implemented at farm level to optimize water use, eliminate runoff, and support Egypt’s national water conservation objectives, particularly in water-scarce regions. Soil health is actively managed through the adoption of humic substances and nutrient-fixing compounds, reducing dependence on synthetic fertilizers while enhancing organic matter, soil structure, and long-term productivity. Pesticide use is strictly controlled in line with GlobalG.A.P. guidelines, ensuring responsible application, minimized residues, and full compliance with international regulatory limits.

In parallel, Kernile has established long-term global partnerships with reputable seed suppliers and environmentally responsible fertilizer providers, enabling the transfer of advanced agricultural knowledge and best practices to its farming partners. All suppliers and farming partners are subject to regular technical evaluations and annual audits, reinforcing Kernile’s commitment to responsible sourcing, ethical operations, and continuous improvement across its agricultural supply chain. Across its industrial operations, Kernile is also implementing an energy optimization program within its processing facilities, targeting a 15–20% reduction in CO₂ emissions by 2027 through efficiency upgrades, improved process control, and reduced energy intensity per ton processed.

Looking ahead, Kernile has defined clear and measurable ESG objectives for the 2026–2028 period, including a 20% reduction in water consumption per metric ton of peanuts produced, certification of a zero-deforestation supply chain, completion of a B Corp-equivalent sustainability assessment, and the establishment of full carbon accounting across its Egypt and Netherlands operations as a foundation for future emissions-reduction initiatives. Through disciplined environmental management, strong social governance, and transparent performance targets, Kernile continues to align its operations with international ESG expectations while supporting sustainable agricultural development across its sourcing regions.
